Heliopolis Creation Myth
Nun, the primodial water, existed in darkness for eons of
time. Then a mound rose out of this water through the dard mist.
Atum, the solar creator god, condensed out of the mist and
stood upon the mound. He was the sun, and thus there was daylight, but
he was alone.
Atum sneezed and Shu and Tefnut, air and moisture, were
created.
Shu and Tefnut had two children, Geb and Nut, the earth
and sky.
Shu separated the pair by lifting Nut into the sky. But
Geb and Nut did not remain separate, they had four children, Osiris, Isis,
Seth and Nepthys.
The Ennead, the Heliopolis pantheon, is composed of Shu,
Tefnut, Geb and Nut and the children of Geb and Nut, Osiris, Isis, Seth
and Nepthys.
Shu lifts Nut into the sky while Geb reclines below.
